SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE: Whats the big deal

Writing after a loooooooooong time.. life's been slightly busy but just could not help myself from writing this. I saw the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' yesterday and now i am 100% sure that all these award functions are just an exercise in futility. The dark knight isnt even nominated which is sheer nonsense.

Coming to the movie, what is the big deal about it? I heard somewhere its PORN MOVIE ON THE POVERTY OF INDIA and though that may be too strong a statement but i would have to agree to an extent. Well Danny Boyle, great director he maybe.. but what this movie depicts is actually only and only the trash things about India, the way the west wants to see us... poverty, slums, beggars, children turning to criminals, people duping the western tourists...and yes fine many of it is true... but then the icing on the cake... its a western movie and India is only about the Taj Mahal so tht has to be there(it props up suddenly when the children are thrown in a desert which actually seems to be Rajasthan) and worse still THE ONLY INDUSTRY where the protagonist could have been employed as a chaiwalla had to be a call centre ( as if thts the only industry which is there in India)..

There are innumerable loopholes in the story...i couldnt find any continuity... the only good thing about the movie is its music which HAD TO BE GOOD cos its AR Rahman who is sheer genius..
I CANNOT understand why people are going gaga over this movie and even more peprplexing is why are Indians rejoicing at its success.... i kno people would surely disagree with me but wat the hell its my blog i have an opinion i will express it

people who agree with me

Dude... this looks like a movie critic's opinion about a movie...
i agree the movie isn't that great after all, but you are certainly right towards the end.. i don't agree with you.. the movie has continuity, a nice continuity i would say..
all major cities of every country have slums and dark areas.. think of new york where there are areas where, if you enter, you are dead..
at least that's not there in bombay..
let's just wait for a movie like this to be made about NY or London and the opinion that one gets...

Taj Mahal and call centre....lol...nice observation...i totally missed tht...actually when I saw the movie I really dint kno it was a british movie...
altho I still think its not completely 'unindian'...u can say xcept the director and producer, its mostly indian....though it feels really weird that slum children are talking in english...

I completely agree. You have my support in any kind of demonstrations or riots you would like to cause.
